Got Stress? Dancing Is Just What the Doctor Ordered
Like it or not, stress is a necessary part of life. Having a bit of stress pushes us to be our best, it keeps us focused and ready to tackle new challenges -- at work and at play.
However, how much is too much? The answer is fairly simple. If you are experiencing excessive stress in your life, you are likely feeling the effects of your anxiety. Trouble sleeping, feeling sad or depressed, arguing with loved ones and not meeting deadlines are all obvious side effects of too much stress.
Worse yet, when we are feeling stressed, we also feel out of control. This means it’s hard to know how to help ourselves. When this happens, it’s important to rely on your support network. And, if trying to choose “who” to talk with stresses you out even more, we have a solution that may do the trick. It may seem odd, but social dancing (yes, ballroom style) can truly reduce stress in a number of ways.
- What’s good for the body is great for the mind! There is science behind using dancing as a true stress reliever. When you do something physical, your body releases endorphins and neurotransmitters. After a great dance workout, your body will feel calm and optimistic thanks to your own internal system kicking into gear.
- Creative activities provide a new point of view! For many people, it’s not easy to be your true self in the workplace. Perhaps you have a “work persona” and people don’t get to meet the real you. This can be stressful all by itself. At Arthur Murray Charleston, we encourage people to be themselves and have a great time doing it. Come out of your shell and learn to dance! Movement and music brings out the best in everyone.
- Making new friends opens a world of opportunity! Whether you are the popular type with plenty of friends and family or someone who doesn’t have the knack of meeting new people easily, you’re in luck. Dance lessons will change your life! When you start dancing, you’ll immediately meet a host of new friends who already know why dancing is so great for the mind, body and soul. You’ll become a part of a community of fun people who, like you, look forward to getting a break from the stressors of life.
